Built in Cambodia out of hard tropical woods and using traditional methods, the Toum Teav was the first cruise boat to travel on the Mekong river from Siem Reap all the way to Saigon, from Cambodia to Vietnam, offering high quality accommodation with a blend of charm and tradition.

In the Toum Teav’s semi-open air restaurant, their chef offers a whole selection of European, Vietnamese and Cambodian specialties. You can choose to stay on the sundeck overlooking the river or in our large library lounge, decorated in neo-colonial style. The Toum Teav’s low water draught allows it to stop very close to the villages along the river shores.

The Toum Teav operates two regular rotations from Siem Reap (Angkor Wat) to Phnom Penh and from Phnom Penh to Saigon. You’ll be able to enjoy the Mekong starting from the mythical city of Angkor Wat until the Mekong Delta in Vietnam. From April to June, at the end of the dry season and when the river level of the Tonle Sap is too low, the Toum Teav will not be able to reach Siem Reap. During this period the Toum Teav heads north out of Phnom Penh following the Mekong to Kampong Cham and and charming colonial Kratie, where you may spot the rare Irawaddy dolphin.

Introduction

The Izabella, a brand new boat from the same company that introduced the Toum Teav cruise boat, provides a unique way to enjoy the sights and sounds of life on the picturesque Tonle Sap Lake and along the Tonle Sap River. Stopping off at various points along the journey, the cruise begins at 7am from the Phnom Penh boat dock and arrives in Siem Reap at 6pm. The boat returns to Phnom Penh the following day. The Izabella can accommodate twenty passengers and leaves Phnom Penh on Mondays and Fridays, with departures from Siem Reap on Tuesday and Saturdays. The boat is also available for charter to other locations such as Kratie, Battambang, Chau Doc and Saigon.

The cruise will include drinks, meals, all visits and the services of a French or English speaking guide. It does not include transfers, visas and personal expenses.

Phnom Penh – Siem Reap, 1 Day

06:45 IZABELLA is open for embarking.

07:00
Departure for Kôh Chen (Chinese Island). Security briefing, crew introduction.

07:30 Arrival to Kôh Chen, visit to the small village of whose inhabitants specialize in silver and copper smiting. They make ornamental items, including delicately engraved tropical fruits, used in traditional ceremonies at the pagoda or for marriages.

08:00 Embarking, departure for Kampong Tralach.

08:20 Arrival at Kampong Tralach to visit its wonderful Vihara, belonging to Wat Kampong Tralach Leu pagoda. To get to it, we cross Kampong Tralach Krom village along a small road perpendicular to the river, crossing some gorgeous stretches of emerald rice paddy as we leave the river behind. The Vihara dates back to early last century. It was probably built on an older site, as indicated by the “latérite” foundations, and is home to some outstanding mural paintings. These, however, are starting to suffer from weathering. They remain one of the last survivors of cultural destruction that continues unabated due to widespread indifference. Standing by itself in the middle of rice fields, it is a modest pagoda that receives very few visitors.

09:50 Re-embarking, IZABELLA leaves Kampong Tralach for Kampong Chnang

10:20 Arrival at Kampong Chnang. Located some 56 miles from Phnom Penh, the town of Kampong Chnang is one of the largest fishing ports on the Tonlé Sap. Fish farming is also widely practiced in the area. The area is famous for its pottery ware, unchanged in style for centuries, which is produced in sufficient quantities to supply the entire country – visit to the potters’ village. And not to be overlooked are the products of the Thnot tree (sugar palm – a real national symbol) that abounds in the area: a mellow tasting, caramel-colored sugar sold in large cakes and palm wine.
12:00 Embarking, lunch on board on the way to Chnok Tru.

13:10 Arrival at Chnok Tru, IZABELLA is heading on the “streets” of the biggest floating village on the Tonlé Sap River. Almost totally overlooked by tourists because of its remoteness and difficult access, the village is completely self-sufficient. A floating school, factories to make ice for fish preservation, church, pagoda, service stations, pigsty, stores, boat or television repair shops, video club, karaoke bar, police station... everything is on the water. All trades are represented and everybody from children to grandparents goes by boat through the network of canals that cross this little town. Visit to a local house.

14:00 Departure for a couple of relaxing hours while crossing the Tonlé Sap Lake.

17:00 Arrival at Phnom Krom, the pier of Siem Reap. Transfer downtown Siem Reap by our bus.

18:00 Arrival at FCC Angkor Hotel, the final point of our trip. The local tour agent in charge of your land arrangements will transfer you at your hotel.
